MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The No. 1-ranked West Virginia University women’s soccer team faces Bowling Green in its final exhibition match of the 2017 preseason on Saturday, Aug. 12, at 1 p.m., at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium.
Saturday’s match is free and open to the public.
“We’re looking forward to Saturday’s match, especially to see how we look after working hard in training this week on specific aspects of our game,” Mountaineer coach Nikki Izzo-Brown said. “The team has been committed to many points that we need to strengthen before our season opener, so this will be a good test and measuring stick to see where we stand.”
WVU returns to competition following a 2-1 victory at Michigan on Aug. 7. Senior midfielder Carla Portillo
paced the team with three points (1 G, 1 A), while junior forward Grace Cutler
tallied the game-winner in the 32nd minute.
The teams each registered four shots on-goal, and sophomore Rylee Foster
recorded three second-half saves. The Mountaineers finished with a 13-6 edge in shot and a 4-3 advantage in corner kicks.
Under the guidance of first-year coach Matt Fannon, the Falcons opened their exhibition with a 1-1 draw against Xavier on Aug. 8, at Cochrane Field, in Bowling Green, Ohio.
